I placed an order with BuyCostumes.com on Friday, October 1, and received an immediate email confirming my order. By the next morning, I had received an email from BuyCostumes.com that my order was on its way; this email also contained a tracking number from UPS so I could trace my shipment.

I received my costume order on Thursday, October 7. I had paid a flat rate of $4.95 for shipping–not expedited, just the standard ground rate. BuyCostumes.com generally offers free shipping on orders of at least $65–my order would have qualified, but I had another discount that saved me more off my order). Since only one discount could be used per order, you need to pick whichever one saves you the most money.

Everything was great so far. But when I opened the Super Deluxe Jedi Cloak I had ordered for my son, I discovered that an 8-inch portion of the hem was coming unraveled. I emailed the folks at BuyCostumes. com and let them know about the problem. According to their posted policy–and what made sense to me–was that I was going to have to mail the robe back, then wait for them to process the return before they sent me another one. I was hoping to not have to pay return shipping, considering it had arrived faulty.

The customer service I received from BuyCostumes.com exceeded my expectations. The discussion of my paying return shipping never came up, because the folks at BuyCostumes.com didn’t even ask me to return the faulty cloak; they simply sent me a new one–at no additional charge.

I know this goes above and beyond what their stated return policy is on their website, and I wouldn’t count on it being this easy every time–but they sure did make this particular shopping experience a great one for me–and one I’m going to rave about whenever I get the chance, for sure. For me, the decision to shop with them again will be easy. Based on my personal experience with BuyCostumes.com, I would highly recommend them for any costume purchase you may be considering–whether for Halloween or otherwise.
