When I Saw the Tokidoki Barbie Craze Online, this One Thing Sprang to Mind . . .

by Nindo Mom on October 20, 2011

Not to buy, but to sell.

(See my article Gearing Up for the Holidays: How to Make the Most Money on Ebay.)

I’m always on the lookout for great stuff to sell on Ebay. And when I saw that this TokiDoki Barbie was catching fire, I knew it would be a great opportunity to make some money–assuming, of course, that I could actually locate the product at a reasonable price. Which, it turned out, I couldn’t–not online, anyway. By the time I heard about the TokiDoki Barbie’s surging popularity, it was either sold out or being offered for about $200. And of course, if I can’t buy it for a heck of a lot less than the “going rate,”  then there’s no way to make a reasonable amount of money on it.

So it seems that I missed out on this opportunity. I just wasn’t online, with my ear to the ground, in time to take advantage of the developing situation. But it’s not completely hopeless: not yet. Because the weekend is almost here, which means I’ll have time to physically visit my local brick-and-mortar stores to see if THEY have this Tokidokie Barbie. There’s a chance they will–because retail stores frequently have different stock than their online counterparts.

If I don’t find these Tokidokie Barbie’s this weekend, my eyes will be open for the rest of the holiday season. Just as I’ll be watching for other developing “hot” toys. . .

It’s fun–kinda like a treasure hunt–and it can be very profitable. Certainly enough to help fund one’s own Christmas purchases. . . .
